    We have a range of courses available, all delivered via our blended learning model.

    You will be guided from complete beginner to a level of understanding which will enable you to enjoy the benefits of working within the electrical industry.

    The course that you choose will depend on what level you want to enter the industry at and how long you want to study.

    Basic courses cover introductory electrical principles and safe working practices, and our advanced courses build your skills up to the level of qualified domestic installer.

    Our advisors will help you assess your current circumstances and help you decide on the course which is best for you.

    As well as the home study you will be spending some time at one of our training venues to complete the practical training, assessments and exams. You will have up to two years to complete your programme.

    The Training

    The programmes comprise of theory work which can be completed at your home or wherever you find convenient and practical workshop days.

    The theory modules have been developed to provide a good understanding of the subject matter in preparation for the practical days.

    The practical days are designed to instil in you the skills to work as a domestic electrical installer.

    Some of our courses include the following modules:-

    • Electrical concepts.
    • First aid.
    • Earthing arrangements and protective coatings.
    • Control and protective equipment.
    • Terminating cable and flexible cords.
    • Installing PVC cables.
    • Visual electrical safety checks.
    • IEE wiring regulations (17th Edition).
    • Portable appliance testing.
    • Building regulations and safety legislation.
    • Pre-work, survey and inspections.
    • Installing and replacing components.
    • Electrical test results and completing certificates.
    • Installing and / or re-routing domestic electrical cables.
    • New domestic lighting circuits.
    • Basic understanding of 3 phase supplies.

    The Support

    For the duration or your course you will be able to obtain support from a specialist electrical tutor via a telephone or email.

    The Skills Centre are proud to be accredited by the Open & Distance Learning Quality council. The council are the UK guardian of quality in distance learning. Accreditation includes rigorous assessment of administrative and tutorial methods, educational materials and publicity. Accredited bodies are monitored to ensure students continue to receive a good service and are re-assessed at least once every three years.
